Profile Information

About Me:
Jasmine Ann Cooray is a writer, poet, and creative innovator. She writes with soul and precision, transforming intimate everyday relationships and painting the world into something you want to look at twice. Her performances are warm, animated and affecting. Jasmine founded the Brighton’s monthly sell-out performance night Floetics and is now building a signature range of site-specific creative writing workshops called WRITELondon, which generate rich material for their participants. Jasmine is the winner of both the Farrago Summer Slam and the Farrago Award for Best Feature Debut Performance in addition to runner up at the Roundhouse Slam in 2007. Her poems will be shortly published under the Spread the Word mentorship scheme, FLIGHT, and she is working towards her first collection.
Hi All, I've been encouraged to put up info here about the Workshops I'm running: if anyone's interested, drop me a line!

Jasmine

What IS WRITELondon?

WRITELondon is a range of site- specific creative writing workshops for writers across genres. A group of writers are escorted around London locations over day or evening workshops and provided with creative writing tasks that use aspects of the space to fuel new material. You don’t have to proclaim yourself a Writer, WRITELondon is open to anyone who wants to re-engage with surroundings, flex new creative muscles, and go on an adventure. We’re about generating ideas and being inspired by the everyday.

The workshops are structured as a walking tour with public transport if necessary. the group will work individually and sometimes collaboratively to generate new writing material from the tasks set specific to space. The workshop also includes sharing of work and ideas. WRITELondon is also frequently an impromptu forum for networking and connecting with likeminded people.

Who’s behind it?

WRITELondon is designed and run by Poet and educator Jasmine Ann Cooray, who combines her site-specific drama experience with a passion for words. Jasmine has been performing her work in London and Brighton for two years and writing since she could stick her fingers in ink. She is pleased to meet you.

On the WRITELondon Blog, I'll be posting new listings for upcoming workshops, feedback, blogging the workshops as they go, and posting pictures and work. I look forward to seeing you on a WRITELondon soon!

Check it out at www.writelondon.wordpress.com

The upcoming workshops are:

WRITELondon Character Series

Monday Evenings, 6.30-10pm
Dates 8th, 15th, 22nd, 29th September, 6th +13th October

A series of character workshops. You’ll be taken around exploring people, inventing backstory and personality, experimenting with dialogue and voice, and playing with how and why we create characters. Like all WRITELondons, this series is not specific to any genre, but might be particularly relevant to those interested in writing for stage or screen. Create in a supportive and encouraging environment and deepen your ideas as the course continues. Come and push your imagination to its furthest corners through the rich and varied stimulant of London.

WRITELondon Sensory Taster Tour
Whole day workshop, Saturday 6th September 11am-6pm.

As a springboard to The Sense Series, the Sensory Taster Tour works as a kind of appetite whetting workshop, to give you a sense (excuse the pun) of the kind of things we do on a WRITELondon and how we match up sensory experience with creative writing! Come along, give it a try, and see what you can create.

WRITELondon: The Sense Series

Tuesday Evenings 6.30-10pm,
Dates: 16th, 23rd, 30th September, 7th, 14th, 21st October

Long anticipated, come and have more than a visual experience on The Sense Series. This sequence of workshops explores London through a different sense every week, including Movement alongside Taste, Smell, Sound, Touch, and Sight. You’ll be moving around different spaces, completing creative writing tasks designed for each place. Learn to experience your environment with a changing focus.
