knee surgery for women

Interestingly enough when I went o the CBC site to read their reporting on the doctors recommending knee replacement surgery less often for women, in this case, there was alot of poo-pooing of the study in the comments. Of course, CBC forgot to mention that we already know that men have knee replacement surgery more often than women, despite the fact that women are more likely to have arthritis. What this study was mostly likely attempting to do is provide insight into why more men get knee surg… Continue

Study finds doctors twice as likely to recommend replacement surgery for men as women

MONDAY, March 10 (HealthDay News) -- Women with knee pain are less likely than men to be recommended for total knee replacement surgery, says a Canadian study that suggests gender bias may be a factor.

The University of Toronto study included a woman and a man with moderate knee osteoarthritis (OA) who reported the same pain symptoms and sought assessments from 67 doctors (38 family physicians and 29 orthoped… Continue

more blogetting

When I wrote my blogette on H1N1 (shorter than a blog, longer than a tweet) - I was sorta saying it's not a monster - but then I reread what I wrote and it's doesn't sound very uplifting at all. Well, I am recupperated now for the most part - and it was a long annoying flu, but it wasn't the worst flu I have had. Olivia got through it easily. Anyway, seems like the fear has abated and were on to new crazy things of which to be afraid. The monsters in the urban dark.

H1N1

I am very sick with the flu. I am pretty sure it's H1N1. It's a really, really bad flu - but I have had just as bad with a much worse cough. The most worrisome symptom, (since I am not throwing-up - I rarely do - unless drinking), is the heaviness on the lungs. Strange cause there is no signs of congestion, yet I have a heavy congested feeling on the lungs, and I started feeling that almost immediately. In fact, I was contemplating not sleeping at all in case I had respiratory failure - that's h… Continue

The St. John's International Women's Film Festival

Started before opening night, I met with Carol Whiteman - the amazing and beautiful Carol Whiteman. Opening night was lovely. From Noreen's wonderful speech and funny quips (Clyde Wolverine Jackman) to the engaging imagery of Love and Savagery. I also had a wonderful time at the reception. Last night I saw some films at the Masonic Temple - after going to the Majestic by mistake. While the sound at the Masonic was crap (being honest), the films were beautiful and of such a high quality. Really w… Continue

Yes, Johnny is excited for his visit next week - let's hope it is a step nearer to getting back in town! That is lovely about Hedwig - I remember the movie - I'm assuming it's the same story?? I guess your Toronto visit is not in the works - the fall races by so quickly n'est ce pas? Can't believe now we are nearing end of November - also we have had the mildest of fall weather here and so it is strange when you realize the year is really winding down. Hope the weightlifting thingie was fun! Rose xxx

Good to hear. Yes, it's the time of year for colds and I am crossing my fingers to make it through this trip without picking something up, but planes are murder on the immune system. I have my little bottle of hand sanitizer.... are you still planning on a Toronto trip? rx

Hi my dear - loved the pix I saw from B'more. So glad it was fun! Hope you've feeling better today. Don't worry about the flu!! We are the wrong age anyway. As for the vaccine - I'm with David Suzuki and Rick Mercer. They're getting the vaccine because it's the sensible thing to do. As Suzuki says, do Canadians really believe our scientists, doctors, government (including Johnny!) want to poison us? Or that they haven't looked carefully at the pros and cons, considered risks, know all the possible problems? Don't let the flakes get you down! If I had young kids I'd be lined up long ago.....
I'm off to LA tomorrow! Looking forward to it. Lots happening on film scene. And Hold Fast is in to the agencies for support.... More later. Much love dearest, Rosemary xxx

Thinking of you too my dear and always hoping that things are looking up for you. I heard from Ann A that she had spent some time in the basement at Rabbittown with you and loved being with you. Of course! I am working for a few weeks with a production company here - very strange to be doing the day-job thing.... Having a little ladies lunch this weekend - will write with news - Mary S in town for a few days. Glad you are having fun with new play - I am always following your exploits! rose xx
