OK, my last post on this, at least for today! Two other thoughts after I hit "Add Reply": It's very important to acknowledge the weight of the burden you carry as a survivor and to not be too hard on yourself. This is not easy. It takes a lot of...

I was speaking to a male friend this week about a particularly disturbing Youtube video. This friend is not exactly what I'd call a "champion of women's issues", but interestingly, his comment on the blatant misogyny of this video was "Rape is and...

Hey, Somehow I missed this post. Thanks for putting it up Rosemary. I have of late been increasingly eaten up by exactly what we are talking about here and in other fora started by Jacqueline, myself and others. I have been getting pretty depress...

Congratulations J. Whatever anyone says, FB is about managing your image. I don't really use my account and I remember feeling some sort of visceral depletion when I first got on and would spend time surfing around in there. I think psychologicall...

Hey Jackie, Love the Manifesto!! I am going to adopt it myself. I picked up another book at Chapters this weekend that might interest you. It's called Yes Means Yes: Visions of Female Sexual Power and A World Without Rape. It's a collection of e...

I am relieved to hear that there is not so much of this trend apparent at MUN. It would be interesting to hear what some of these women have to say about raunch culture because it is so unavoidably pervasive. I ordered the book and I have not bee...

In response to Lois, for me, this dialogue is about those WHO DO fall victim to the influence of negative role models. And as Lois mentioned, I think it is important to note that a lot of women do overcome such influence and remain positive role m...

Hello my dear! I just thought I'd let you know that I told Kathie Housser about the Elizabeth May business the other day and she was amazed and has just joined the site and started a discussion called Putting Journalists to Shame!

Yes don't we all look fresh - of course you and Joan still do!! Just had lunch at the new Hungry Heart Café with Lois, Rhonda and Emma. It's really very nice there and fun to get Lois out of the house. Especially with this grim weather.... Yes, Annie Sprinkle. We were just talking about that and I think I will shoot a little video and put it up on the site.... see you soon I hope! rose xx

Hi sweetie - so lovely to see you last night. Just a reminder, check out when women are crazy - it's on the Main page in the videos. You'll get a kick out of it - quite groovy actually! xx

Hey darling - Paris is brilliant - quel surprise. Have you seen the blog about name changing? I think you could weigh in with Troake versus Evans. I remember thinking it was a crazy move - who would ever get used to it? And then I totally forgot you were ever an Evans - until I saw your name in the credits for WWAC. Lots of love, wish you were here, you're such a european girl! xxx

Hey Diana - the reason there is only one male doll with lot of different penises is because "lonely" women don't earn as much as lonely men and they/we can't afford the whole doll - we can only afford the penises or is it peni - or is peni a Italian pasta?

Hey there,

yep, that was strange indeed. I liked how the filmmaker respected each person he profiled but then took a big step back and looked at the whole picture which, from the outside, seems bonkers.

But it's not that crazy, really. It only gets kinda crazy when they take them for rides in the car and make sure they have their hairspray in their purse.

What I found most chilling was that they have hooks in the back of their necks and all the shots of the factory where they are made! All these headless, handless, feetless bodies waiting to be fucked. It was fucked!

Thanks for posting it. I checked out the website too and they do have one male doll ( cause we were wondering). And he's totally gross! He's exactly in the same vein of unattainable "beauty" as the women are...all chisled and stern looking. But there's just one body with about six different penises.

trippy.

thanks again,

Diana

The one I watched was quite innocuous but I it wasn't what Rosemary watched - so...anyway, I heard this very distrubing cbc report on robots - and the guy was - yeah one day we will be able to marry robots - fuck maybe we are robots???

Just watched Guys and Dolls. I agree with all you have said below my dear - the alienation and loneliness (that British computer guy in particular, the heartbreaking rejection of himself as a man and a person) and as you say the weird commodification of women - the rubber vaginas and tongues (really the only rough spots - all the rest quite bearable). And you're right - hard to believe women could ever do the same. But I agree with the comment regarding the ultimate in masturbation. And this was on television! Wow, the Brits hey - they are something else. I watched the whole thing and at the end of it didn't feel all that sickened. Just another strange notch on the vast strangeness of the human being really. The guy with the girlfriend and the many dolls - well he's just a creep but Davecat and British computer boy - just so sad, so lonely. We'll post it in the forum with a warning for disturbing content... thanks for sending it in. I'm surprised I watched the whole thing actually. But I did!

Bonjour ma chére! Just wondering if you'd still like those French tapes - I'm working like a demon and have been sticking to an hour to two hours a day study and just had my third lesson with Mary B. It's certainly challenging but plus que je pratique, plus que ça marche! Would love to see you - coffee on Saturday perchance? xx
