RE: Bill C 391, Private Member's bill to repeal the Long Gun Registry.
Editor:
The Ontario Coalition of Rape Crisis Centres (OCRCC) works toward the prevention and eradication of sexual assault. The coalition recognizes that violence against women is one of the strongest indicators of prevailing societal attitudes towards women. OCRCC membership includes 23 of Ontario's sexual assault centres offering…

I am working on this play about domestic violence which is also quiet funny. Not as a director - but as the AD and mentor director. I have invited Berni to come to give us a talkback on Saturday night after the show.
To watch me interviewing Berni about the play - go to Youtube - and to channel - newfoundlandartistx
Berni's bio
Berni Stapleton is a Newfoundland- Labrador actor and playwright of unique distinction. She is a comedienne with a flair for characters and storytelling. She is a rece…

Interestingly enough when I went o the CBC site to read their reporting on the doctors recommending knee replacement surgery less often for women, in this case, there was alot of poo-pooing of the study in the comments. Of course, CBC forgot to mention that we already know that men have knee replacement surgery more often than women, despite the fact that women are more likely to have arthritis. What this study was mostly likely attempting to do is provide insight into why more men get knee surg…

Study finds doctors twice as likely to recommend replacement surgery for men as women
MONDAY, March 10 (HealthDay News) -- Women with knee pain are less likely than men to be recommended for total knee replacement surgery, says a Canadian study that suggests gender bias may be a factor.
The University of Toronto study included a woman and a man with moderate knee osteoarthritis (OA) who reported the same pain symptoms and sought assessments from 67 doctors (38 family physicians and 29 orthoped…

When I wrote my blogette on H1N1 (shorter than a blog, longer than a tweet) - I was sorta saying it's not a monster - but then I reread what I wrote and it's doesn't sound very uplifting at all. Well, I am recupperated now for the most part - and it was a long annoying flu, but it wasn't the worst flu I have had. Olivia got through it easily. Anyway, seems like the fear has abated and were on to new crazy things of which to be afraid. The monsters in the urban dark.

I am very sick with the flu. I am pretty sure it's H1N1. It's a really, really bad flu - but I have had just as bad with a much worse cough. The most worrisome symptom, (since I am not throwing-up - I rarely do - unless drinking), is the heaviness on the lungs. Strange cause there is no signs of congestion, yet I have a heavy congested feeling on the lungs, and I started feeling that almost immediately. In fact, I was contemplating not sleeping at all in case I had respiratory failure - that's h…

Started before opening night, I met with Carol Whiteman - the amazing and beautiful Carol Whiteman. Opening night was lovely. From Noreen's wonderful speech and funny quips (Clyde Wolverine Jackman) to the engaging imagery of Love and Savagery. I also had a wonderful time at the reception. Last night I saw some films at the Masonic Temple - after going to the Majestic by mistake. While the sound at the Masonic was crap (being honest), the films were beautiful and of such a high quality. Really w…

Last night a woman ran down a young cyclist on the corner of Rawlins Cross. The young man was on a cross walk. She was upset. He seemed stunned, as he leaned against the Hungary Heart and rubbed his jaw. Everyone was very sympathetic to her as she was crying and all. Within a few minutes, he had himself kinda stored away, out of the crowd as he was obviously in some form of mild (at least) shock. He didn't want help, seem dazed and said the wrong things. She was doing all the appropriate things…

I was gonna write my new depression experiences inside the Health system, but as I was opening 48th and thinking about IWD - that has so recently past, I thought about how grateful I am for 48th. Although I don't use this site as much as I would like to - and the site itself heats up and cools down, it is a remarkable place...it is very much "a room of one's own." I never blogged before, I never shared in this way...it reminds me of the rooms of women that I have encountered or been a part of in…

Every year She Said Yes! White Rooster and RCAT get together and present a reading of new plays. This year a play I am working on with Dave Sullivan and Nicole Rousseau as actors is being read on Tues nite at Eastern Edge. It's a pretty wonderful project. It's interesting to see lots of different work at various different stages...by women or featuring women. This year I think its all women playwrights...My play is called Trees and its about a sister and brother who have very different versions…

Andy came up with that one. Fuckuary.
If you suffer from a clinical depression, it's no good to expect sympathy this month. Everyone's depressed. Right now I look at the window and begrudgingly admit that the soft snow falling straight (unusual for St. John's) down looks beautiful. I smile. But no so much last night, when a snow plow - something you don't usually see a lot of on my street - almost backed - yes, backed into us - me and ML. Scary. Indeed. Our horn on full-blast sounded like a chil…
