This is so interesting because I must admit I was leaning on the 'hasn't he suffered enough side' and despising Americans for being so blood-thirsty. But I've read the excellent Salon article and a couple of others and what you say here Sally is quite true of me - because he is famous and also because of his past and my respect for his work, it was indeed hard for me to compute the reality that he drugged, raped and sodomized a child. Thanks for the post Kaya!

I've become more and more enraged at this story. Watching actors on T.V. talking about a "witch hunt" and saying that he has in some way "suffered" or paid his debt to society somehow is sickening. Because Polanski is famous he somehow doesn't fit the profile of a child rapist which makes it hard for some people to compute what he himself has admitted to doing.

from the same website, another article on the same topic.
the author proposes a dichotomy between helping the victim and pursuing the criminal. this to me suggests justice reform, not the abandonment of the pursuit.
