Tap Project

On World Water Day, March 22, 2007, hundreds of restaurants in New York City invited customers to donate just $1 for the tap water they usually enjoy for free. All the money raised through the Tap Project helps UNICEF save lives by providing safe drinking water to children around the world. Thanks to every restaurant, customer, donor, and organization who contributed to the Tap Project and helped make the first year a success! The Tap Project will be in cities across the country in March 2008. Stay tuned for updates.

I'm really glad the tap project was initiated. Same with Earth Hour. People complain about these initiatives saying they aren't extreme enough but really we need to start small if we really expect a change.

This is especially pertinent with the blog post from Desirée Baker and her school's debate about clean water. Too bad HHM didn't have this video on hand when other high schools said that it wasn't our responsibility to help developing countries deal with the chronic and, as this video shows, catastrophically fatal consequences of the lack of safe drinking water for millions of people.

Our name was inspired by a survey of elected women in governments worldwide showing Canada in the disappointing position of #48. And over the past two years we've dropped to 50 and risen to 47....
We're a politically motivated, artistically driven platform for feminists interested in challenging the status quo.
We invite filmmakers, artists and activists to express themselves and contribute their art and ideas.
We're committed to showcasing female artists and to connecting with women around the world.
We believe we have a responsibility to support womens' struggle for human rights and equality globally.
We also believe in using art and entertainment to mix it up in the political world.
